The Toronto Hakka Conference (THC) set out to establish at its fourth conference in 2016 a Hakka Education Trust that would award scholarships to students. THC2016 commemorated its founding in 2000 with the inauguration of a scholarship program for students entering post-secondary studies. Applicants sponsored by supporting organizations were evaluated on a range of criteria and the chosen students were introduced at the closing ceremony.
For THC2020, applicants were assessed on Academic achievement, non-Academic contribution, Vision for their generation, and Aspirations for the future. The selection committee was headed by business consultant and community activist Charles Young, who was director of the fourth THC. He was assisted in this task by Dr. Suzanne Wong, Physician Leader and Educator, and Winston Chang, Marine Underwriter and Author.
MCAO was the proud sponsor for one of the six awardees, Mr. Mathieu Li Tim Cheong, for the Dr. Mickey Lowe Scholarship. Each recipient received a cheque from the Conference and a mountain of hopes and dreams from our Hakka associations and community.
